I am down to ONE child left to go to high school.
I never thought this day would come.
For those of you who are still with your young ones…I know, I know…the sweetness of a child. I get it. But for me? After this being #3 and he being a boy after two girls? I have been singing “HALLELUJAH“.
Jesse and I had a meeting with (the same three people I have met with since Tori -my first-was in 8th grade) to settle and decide on which classes we needed to take for his new beginning in life as a freshman in the almighty realm of high school.
…and so the questions began…
-) what is it you are interested in Jesse?
-) lets look at your grades…
-) what would you like to do in your future or do you have an idea?
Let me tell you all. He STUNNED me and them. He answered with integrity and authority. “I want you to make sure I have the correct classes for Biotechnology Engineering”.
MOMENTS OF DEAD SILENCE.
Have I missed something here?
Me: seriously confused … “Jesse, um what?”
Jesse: …”Its ok mom. I’ve got this”.
Grades are prefect. All three of the others scrambling papers while he is being placed honors everything. EVERYTHING. Not one class is missed. Well maybe the exception of PE. But his best friend’s dad is the teacher…and I’m sure Mark wont miss a beat there either.
SO….papers signed. Classes made and Miss Lane says…..
“I’m so proud of you Jesse. I can’t believe you are the last one. To see you after your sisters gives me great delight and honor. They both were NC Scholars and you are following their footsteps for sure. Now after today you will receive a packet for your honors classes. There is summer homework and reading that is required for two possibly three classes. When you come to class the first few days, you will be tested. OK? ” *big big hug to Jesse with the strangest look on Jesse’s face*
On that note we leave and get in the car.
Jesse: DEAD SILENCE STARING BUG EYED AHEAD
Me: “Son, whats wrong?”
Jesse: “Why didn’t you stop me? SUMMER HOMEWORK? I didn’t sign up for that? ”
Me: “You said you had this? And where the heck did biotechnology engineering come from?”
Jesse: “I hate Tori. No, really mom. She talked me into this. Her and her AG self. And I was going into FFA too…I just want to do something with my life to make lots of money. Why would Tori do this to me? I am going to get her back. You wait til her wedding. ”
Me: “JESSE. She was trying to help you. …….exactly what do you mean by wedding…”
Jesse: ” I’m not telling. But she will know it. Biotech… I will never listen to her again…I should have consulted Caroline.”
Well, my friends this is what happens when siblings grow up and have the deepest love for the other. As well, have been groomed through the same school system from kindergarten and all the teachers know you and your children. I had it made with my girls. They were sweet, smart and well-loved ….I got a feeling. A deep dark feeling…….im not sure if im more worried about the next four years or about the wedding….I’ll keep you posted.
Til another day….lj
Bye-cycle.
